Recently I participated in a soup-to-nuts (wherever THAT came from) build challenge hosted by Build the Keyword.
The goal was to identify an untapped keyword (high search volume, low KD), create a concept for a product, and build it…in two weeks!
I found the keyword “funny ads” actually didn’t have great search results – most were just blog posts of some funny ads, but honestly, a terrible way to go through this sort of content.
So, I created Funny Ads Club!
It’s a directory of ads that I’ve collected (so far), that have LOL to them.
I used Airtable and Webflow to make this – since the timeline was so short, I chose not to code this from scratch. I tried to pace myself with the challenge schedule as much as possible, which only allowed a few days for building.
The tech stack was super simple because, like I said, I didn’t have much time, so I needed to choose a tool to speed up development, but I didn’t want one that I’d have to spend time learning.
I also used Claud.ai, ChatGPT assistants, and Make.com to create blog posts, funny company descriptions, and some explanations of the humor mechanics for each ad, as well as automating the process of converting Airtable records into CMS items in Webflow (because Webflow doesn’t have a direct integration with Airtable).
This project was fun, fast, and furious, but I plan on monetizing it.
Currently, access is free, with a “Buy me a coffee” button on the user pages, but once I have more ads in the library, I plan on gating it behind a small paywall.
Anyway, I’d love to hear what you think of it, and btw, check out Durex’s ads – they are *chef’s kiss
