I wanted to try my hand at creating a Google Chrome extension. Knowing some other languages, I figured I could put at least some simple pieces together (with the help of ChatGPT, of course).
I prompted ChatGPT to explain how a Chrome extension works to me. Then, I thought about extensions that wouldn’t require any permissions from the user or the browser.
The idea of motivational quotes came to me, so I searched out what extensions existed already.
They weren’t great. So, I smelled opportunity.
A few iterations and lots of conversations with my favorite AI and this extension was born.

Ah, yes, one more thing.
Where to get all these motivational quotes from?
Well, I could scrape them from a quote website, or get ChatGPT to generate them, but then I’d still need to put them all together, organize them, and host them somewhere.
I tried to get ChatGPT to generate a list, but the results were lackluster. Even in a list of 50, there were repeats.
I found a repository on GitHub filled with 5,000 motivational quotes and their authors. A simple tweak in my JavaScript file and I was set to use this repository.
I used ChatGPT to create an icon, Canva to create some design assets, and took some screenshots to populate the listing in the Google Chrome Web Store.
…and, Done. Here’s a link to the Chrome Web Store listing:
