Tom’s 2024 Recap
What Went Well
- Professional
- I started a new job!
- I built some websites and programmed marketing automation (skills I love using)
- I bought a newsletter (first acquisition for Turbo Logic) and have been running for the past six months. This was actually a huge lift because I made the purchase, migrated email platforms, renamed it, rebranded it, and increased the newsletter frequency 😮💨
- Personal
- I walked A LOT. I walked in national parks I’ve never been to before
- I learned a lot of web dev and got to put those skills to use.
- I got to spend some great time with my dad traveling across the West.
- I got to spend a ton of time with Sara while I was unemployed and she was recovering from surgery at home.
- Got to see my baby sister graduate with her bachelors degree!
What Didn’t Go Well
I got fired from a job I liked and was really good at. But jobs come and go and businesses have their reasons.
I didn’t do any fitness challenges. I like to do at least one per year, but I skipped it last year and I really missed that. It makes me feel like I really accomplished something for the year.
I didn’t make as much music as I did in 2023. I love making music and want to do more this year.
Favorite movies
- The Substance – Wow, what a gruesome body horror but it was wild! Not for the weak of stomach.
- It’s What’s Inside – An interesting party murder movie with a sci-fi twist. Super fast-paced.
- Late Night with the Devil – Half of the movie is viewed through a TV camera, since the setting is during a late night talk show during the 70s. Seems like it could be “run-of-the-mill” possession type horror, but they weave the story and cut between perspectives really well.
- 24FPS Short Film Festival – The very last one (25 year run). Short film festival in Abilene with incredible short films from all over the world.
- ATX Horror Film Fest – I only watched one block of short films, but they were great. Definitely going again next year.
Favorite books
- Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
- Recursion by Blake Crouch
- The Art of Gathering
- Financial Feminist by Tori Dunlap
- Wool by Hugh Howey
Favorite Travel
- Fairbanks, Alaska in November – This was my fourth time to Alaska and first time during winter. It was AMAZING. The winter was just mind-blowing. This is the way to experience Alaska.
- Road trip from Redmond, Washington to Albuquerque, New Mexico – The West is so beautiful and I got see amazing national parks while spending a week 1x1 with my dad.
Favorite Purchases
- Miyoo Mini Plus – Basically a Gameboy-shaped emulator with a ton of old school games on it. I spend waiting time playing Street Fighter and Tony Hawk Pro Skater instead of scrolling social media now.
- Artificial turf for my back patio – I covered the concrete of my patio with turf and it makes it so much more comfy. I can just walk out there barefoot.
- Cursor AI – A programming software with built-in AI. Makes coding with AI so much easier because the AI has full contact of my codebase.
- Marketer Gems – Maybe the biggest purchase of the year, but still rocking and rolling.
Favorite Products I Built
- Marketer Gems – Obviously. lol.
- Marketer Tools – This was a big project for me. It turned out to be a pretty large site with a lot more potential. I rebuilt it from the original (I made with a no-code tool).
- Tom Snyder Blog – I wanted a personal website that was funky. Mission accomplished I’d say.
- Turbo Dash – A little Chrome extension that opens a dashboard on a new tab. I wanted something that looked better and had a few more features than the default.
Looking Ahead
In 2025, I’m going to do a fitness challenge (thinking triathlon), keep writing Marketer Gems, put more effort into promoting Marketer Tools, and travel more with Sara.
